A embroidery takes weeks to come to life. An augmented reality image activates in a second. The exhibition Villes flottantes, driven by Elsa Mroziewicz and Cécile Palusinski, does not choose between these two temporalities; it makes them converse.
The project stems from a simple observation: in the face of ecological emergencies, solutions already exist, rooted in specific territories. Taiwan, India, Tunisia, Brazil, the United States, France, and finally Morocco: these are the residencies where the two artists gathered initiatives, gestures, and stories. From this material emerge imaginary floating cities, where traditional embroidery, augmented reality, and sound poetry respond to one another.
Born during a residency at the Maison Denise Masson, the Morocco opus takes the title Au fil de l'eau et du sacré, echoing the signs and symbols that the two artists drew from the collections of the Monde des Arts et de la Parure (MAP) in Marrakech, accompanied in this work by curator Alaa Eddine Sagid. The embroidery cooperative Iminouzerg, with the support of the association Timendotes and the textile studio Brodeuse Voyageuse, gave form to these motifs.
At each stop on the tour within the Institut français network, the exhibition is built in a mirror image: a fresco inspired by Morocco or embroidered in Morocco faces a fresco embroidered in India or Brazil, depending on the stops. The visitor moves from one to the other, invited to activate the images thanks to the app, to listen to the sound haikus and audio journals that reveal life on these floating cities.
