Our review
At number 44 on rue Tarik Ben Ziad, right in the heart of Guéliz, Atelier 44 brings together two worlds in a small, boudoir-like space. On the retail side, a selection of young Moroccan creators: reworked caftans and jellabas, crepe dresses or embroidered shirt-dresses, and contemporary jewellery. On the wellness side, an institute run by Ouafae Berdi, a specialist in active cosmetics for over twenty years.
The boutique is compact, each piece has its place, and visitors come mainly looking for a modern Moroccan outfit for a party or a gift that stands out from classic craftsmanship. Ouafae Berdi and her daughter Meriem run the place, and part of the team can offer advice with kindness. At the institute, you start with a skin diagnosis before a bespoke facial treatment using products with natural active ingredients.
Note: prices are high, expect around 650 dirhams for a piece of jewellery and nearly 2,000 for a pair of jeans, and customer service and after-sales support are uneven. Check the displayed price and exchange conditions before paying. Open Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 8 pm, for those seeking a piece by a Moroccan creator.
