Café Hafa review: our verdict
Perched on the cliffside, with terraces stacked one above the other down to the sea and Tarifa visible across the water, Café Hafa is a Tanger institution, and the view alone explains its status. Here you order mint tea, poured into a large glass resting on its stand, and a bissara of fava beans and peas, the region's specialty, served at any time of day.
You reach it on foot after a stroll through the old medina, making it a beautiful way to end the afternoon with friends. The place remains raw, without pretension or particular care, service is uneven, and there are many smokers on the terraces. Neither chic appointments nor non-smokers will find what they are looking for; people come here to gaze across the strait with a glass of tea in hand.
The tip: the bissara at 12 DH (as of January 2026), with a tea. The best time slot: early in the morning, when the terraces are calmer and less smoky.
