Jardin Zoologique de Rabat review: our verdict
Those who remember it from twenty years ago will hardly recognize it. The Rabat Zoological Garden is set within a large park in the green belt, on the Yacoub El Mansour side, featuring spacious enclosures where African animals have room to move around. The highlight of the visit remains the vivarium, while the educational farm extends the outing for younger visitors.
It is a family outing that occupies most of the day: the park is large and well-maintained, you can eat on-site, and prices remain affordable. Animal lovers may frown at certain aviaries where birds seem cramped, and the restrooms are not up to par with the rest of the facility. Those dreaming of a safari will also be disappointed: this is an honest zoo, not a spectacular wildlife park.
The trap: arriving between noon and 3 pm, when most animals are sleeping and the enclosures appear empty. The best time: opening at 10 am, or late afternoon before the 6:30 pm closing. The tip: save time for the vivarium, the most successful part of the tour.
