Maison Culturelle du Tapis review: our verdict
Before stepping into a carpet shop in the souks, stop here to avoid many mistakes. The Maison Culturelle du Tapis occupies a restored riad in the medina, renovated over three years by artisans, and dedicates a room to each region: patterns, Berber symbols, and techniques, with ancient pieces hung like paintings.
The visit is calm, often guided by the owner, a passionate enthusiast. Those who want to get their hands on the wool can book the weaving workshop and leave with a small carpet of their own making; artisans sometimes demonstrate their craft on site. It suits the curious, design lovers, and families with teenagers; it's not for those expecting a large museum, as the tour remains short.
The highlight: finish on the rooftop with mint tea and cushions, overlooking the medina's rooftops and the Atlas Mountains in the distance. The price: 80 DH entry (raised early 2026), with the workshop available for separate booking. The best time to visit: midday, between souk tours, just a few minutes from Jemaa el-Fna.
