Marcelona review: our verdict
A large olive tree in the middle of the patio, colorful frescoes, and a portrait of Gaudí on the wall: Marcelona displays its Catalan identity without hesitation. The menu follows suit with tapas to share, thick tortilla, paella, parillada, fried calamari, accompanied by free tomato bread to wait out the lulls and Spanish wines to pair with the dishes.
This is the Spanish restaurant of the Mövenpick hotel on Mohammed VI Boulevard, open only in the evening. Ideal for a dinner among friends around shared plates, or for a tapas evening if you're staying in the neighborhood, preferably in the patio at the foot of the olive tree; not suited for fine dining or a rushed meal, as service can drag on busy nights and meat dishes are sometimes meager.
The dish to order: the paella or the tortilla, the two reliable staples of the menu, followed by the rice pudding. The best time slot: right at opening at 7 p.m.; the kitchen closes at 11 p.m.
