Oriental Legend review: our verdict
Chebakia, fig, date, and among the house's creations, a couscous ice cream: at Oriental Legend, ice cream speaks Moroccan. Behind this midnight-blue kiosk on the side of Jemaa el-Fna stands master artisan Morgan Lechâtellier, trained in Italy and settled in Marrakech for over twenty years, who crafts scents in his Sidi Ghanem workshop drawn from the local terroir, from argan oil to Atlas spices.
It is the perfect sweet stop during a stroll on the square, whether with family or on a date: generous portions, wide selection, and fast service. Classic flavors are available, but you aren't stopping for them. This isn't a quiet ice cream parlor for lingering; the counter overlooks the passersby, right in the heart of the city's most animated quarter.
The best tip: choose from the Oriental range—fig, date, or chebakia—rather than the classics. The best time slot is late afternoon, when the heat subsides and the square comes alive.
