Assoufid Golf
Route de Guemassa, about twenty minutes from the medina, Assoufid opened in 2014 an 18-hole, par 72 course designed by Niall Cameron. The concept is desert-like: the layout follows the rolling terrain, preserves local vegetation, and plants only 45% of its surface to save water. The result is well-kept green fairways that wind through canyons and arid land, with mountains in the background.
Over 6,440 meters, the course is unforgiving: dog-legs, risky holes, greens perched high or situated low, you must know how to stay straight. The front nine offers the best views of the Atlas, and the silence is total, with not a house in sight. Maintenance is meticulous, the welcome warm, and the panoramic terrace of the clubhouse is perfect for a drink after the round, facing the 18th green. A course for players who like to be challenged, rather than for a first introduction.
Things to know: the green fee is not cheap, over 500 dirhams, and the condition of the fairways can vary depending on the season, better to inquire when booking. The pro shop remains modest. For a course that stands out from the ordinary on the outskirts of Marrakech, it's worth the trip.
