Fondation Montresso - Jardin Rouge review: our verdict
The Red Garden lives up to its name: ochre walls, a crenellated tower, a courtyard paved with colorful motifs around a pool, and large-scale frescoes on the facades. Created by collector Jean-Louis Haguenauer, the Montresso Foundation hosts resident artists there and showcases their work in exhibition halls with museum-like volumes. In the garden, monumental sculptures and installations are scattered among the palm trees.
It's an outing for contemporary art lovers, but not only: children are also welcome, with works scaled to the park's dimensions. Plan for half a day to see everything—exhibitions and garden alike. This isn't a city stop between appointments nor a botanical stroll: here, art takes precedence over plants, and the place remains first and foremost a workshop for those who work there.
The trap: coming by taxi without asking it to wait, as there's nothing around to return to. The tip: check the current exhibition and access conditions before heading out, as it's a forty-minute drive from Marrakech.
