Frédéric Cassel — Dar Es Salam review: our verdict
A real vanilla bean in the cream, a crisp pastry, sugar held on a leash: the mille-feuille says it all about the Frédéric Cassel house in Dar Es Salam. True to the traditional recipe, the old-fashioned hot chocolate deserves a stop on its own, and the Paris-Brest has its fans. The pastries, made with good ingredients, don't need any extra frills.
In the morning, the Mediterranean-toned room takes on the air of an Italian café, with quick and smiling servers. You come here for a breakfast, a sweet break with the children, or an afternoon stop until 11 pm from Friday to Sunday. Not for big appetites or tight budgets: small-format viennoiseries, light ham-and-butter, and a Paris-Brest that one would wish more generous for its price.
The dish to order: the mille-feuille, with an old-fashioned hot chocolate. The good deal: the sandwich, dessert, and drink set for 135 DH (revised in May 2026). The trap: arriving around 4 pm; in August 2026, there were only a few baguettes left and tea time was no longer served.
