La Galerie 38 review: our verdict
Before heading to the theatre or leaving a class, simply cross the complex to find La Galerie 38, which occupies part of the Studio des Arts Vivants on the route d'Azemmour. Its walls alternate between emerging artists and established names from Morocco and beyond, with a particular fondness for contemporary and urban scenes. The house also maintains addresses in Marrakech and Geneva, and champions its artists at international fairs such as Art Dubai.
The rooms, with white walls on one side and black on the other, highlight large-scale canvases and highly colorful geometric works. The exhibition layout changes throughout the year with personal shows. It is the perfect stop for an art lover, a couple going to an evening show, or parents waiting for a child at the Studio school. It is not a museum: visitors come for a specific exhibition rather than to spend the afternoon there.
The best time to visit is during the week from 10 am to 1 pm or from 3 pm to 7 pm; on Saturdays, it opens until 6 pm. The pitfall: going on a Sunday, as the gallery is closed. The smart move: combine the visit with a show at the Studio, located in the same building.
