La Maison du Tui Na review: our verdict
Here, massage is unlike that offered at other spas in the medina. Tui Na, a technique from traditional Chinese medicine, works on the back using hands, fingers, and sometimes elbows, with herbal oils, to release tension rather than just soothe. The house, a Marrakech branch of a brand present in France, is located at the end of a derb in the Kasbah, inside a riad with carved doors, featuring a patio, lounges, and cabins with sand-colored walls.
This is the address for a half-day retreat for oneself or a couple: you can combine black soap, glove scrub, clay, and massage in a single package, with a pause for mint tea between the two. The welcome is attentive and the practitioners take their time. This is not the best choice for those coming mainly for a scorching hammam: the steam and heat are sometimes absent.
The good deal: a hammam and Tui Na package, to do everything in one go. The trap: booking the hammam alone, often lukewarm. The best slot: late afternoon, after a day of walking in the medina; open every day from 10 am to 9 pm.
