Leelah Spa & Hammam review: our verdict
Blonde stone columns, a lit alcove, and two lanterns placed on the floor: the hammam at Riad Karawan resembles miniature thermal baths and is reserved exclusively for you or a companion. The beldi ritual follows the classic order: steam, black soap made from olive pits, a kessa glove, a ghassoul mask applied to the body and hair, followed by a light massage on the warm bench.
This is a quiet retreat in the medina, perfect for couples or mother and daughter, even if you aren't staying at the riad: non-residents are welcome. After the treatment, you can go up to the terrace for tea, facing the rooftops of Fès, where the practitioners have a gentle touch. Those seeking the atmosphere of a public hammam, with its regulars and buckets of water, will not find it here: everything is hushed and private.
The treatment to book is the 45-minute beldi hammam at 450 DH per person (prices checked October 2026), extendable with an oil massage. The pitfall: showing up without an appointment, as sessions are booked via form, phone, or WhatsApp. The best slot: before 5 PM, the time of the last reservation, to finish with tea on the terrace.
