Les Bains de l'Alhambra review: our verdict
A carved wooden door in a quiet alley of the Kasbah, far from the crowds of the souks: Les Bains de l'Alhambra plays the traditional hammam card. The ritual follows the classic order, steam, vigorous scrubbing with black soap, then an essential oil massage; in between, tea, a foot massage, and rose water compresses to wait out the time.
This is the address for a first-time hammam experience, for two, between friends or mother and daughter, and many arrive there on the recommendation of their riad. The house opens every day from 9 am to 10 pm, which allows you to schedule the session after a day of visits. This is not a hotel spa where you linger for hours: clients follow one another closely and you can feel it.
The good deal: the complete hammam, scrub, and massage formula, the one that gives the most for the time spent. The pitfall: not checking the duration of the massage; a reserved hour must make an hour. The best slot: late afternoon, after the Saadian tombs, a two-minute walk away.
