Mouton Noir review: our verdict
Montréal is never far from the plates at Mouton Noir. This eatery on Mohammed el Beqal Street offers a short menu that changes with the seasons, featuring combinations that look simple but hide a fair amount of work, served from an open kitchen. The bread is homemade, and the Parmesan fries create a little addiction.
The dining room is simple and cozy, the team welcoming and professional: you can eat lunch peacefully here, or dine for two at the end of the week. The atmosphere is very French, which delights those who want to take a breather between visits and disappoints those looking for local flavors. Big eaters, however, will look at the plate with concern: the skirt steak is remarkable but small, and the bill is a bit steep for the quantity served.
Dish to order: the skirt steak, with the Parmesan fries. The trap: the house juice, made of water and syrup rather than pressed fruit. The good slot: Thursday to Sunday for dinner, as the eatery closes at 6 pm from Monday to Wednesday.
