World Storytelling Café review: our verdict
Here, you can leave with a story to match your bill. The World Storytelling Café, just steps from the Ben Youssef Madrasa, presents itself as the city's first fully plant-based café and also serves as a gathering place for storytellers, hosting an international storytelling festival in its wake. Behind an open archway onto the derb, there is a marble counter, intricately carved stucco walls, and several rooms where you can settle onto banquettes.
On the plate, there are tapas to share, falafels, hummus, olives, bean stew, and crepes for a snack. This is the spot for a quiet break in the middle of your visit, ideal for a vegan traveler or a curious duo looking to escape the hustle of the souks. It is not the place for a huge appetite or a rushed lunch: portions are small, and the friendly service takes its time.
The dish to order: the hummus and falafel duo, the safest bet on the menu. The best time to go: the afternoon, for a snack away from the crowds. The pitfall: bottled water, priced exorbitantly; take a look at the menu before ordering.
