Our review
Why choose the rooftop of Pestana CR7, on M Avenue near Ménara? Akira Back Marrakech is the Moroccan outpost of the chef of the same name, who blends modern Japanese cuisine with Korean flavors. The must-order dish is the AB Tuna Pizza, the house specialty, followed by the Truffle Bomb, sushi and sashimi, or fish such as black cod and Chilean sea bass.
The terrace overlooks the city and reaches its full potential at sunset, before the resident DJ turns up the music. The bar serves carefully crafted cocktails, the wine list is extensive, and the floor staff knows how to guide you through the menu, even to the point where the chef sometimes comes out to present his dishes. On the walls hang paintings by Akira Back's mother. People come here for a birthday, a meaningful dinner for two, or a night that stretches late: it's open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Note: the bill climbs quickly, expect more than 500 dirhams per person and often much more with cocktails, and the music can drown out conversation late in the evening. Book ahead, especially for a table at sunset. To celebrate something high up, this address delivers on its promises.
