Our review
Avenue Echouhada, in the Hivernage, Comptoir Darna has been making Marrakech dance since 1999. The concept remains unchanged: dine on Moroccan cuisine in a dim, intimate room, blending old-world décor with contemporary touches, while Oriental dancers and musicians with traditional instruments take turns performing. At the table, tajines, couscous, and pastilla sit alongside more adventurous dishes like miso salmon or shrimp gyozas, with the slow-roasted lamb shoulder serving as the signature dish.
The main show starts around 9:30 PM, after which the evening moves upstairs, where a DJ takes over at the cocktail bar. Two services share the night: one starting at 7:15 PM, the other at 10:30 PM for those who want to keep going until 1 AM. The venue is tailored for birthdays, group outings, and visitors seeking a night of One Thousand and One Nights; the attentive service also knows how to welcome families.
Keep in mind: you're mostly paying for the show and the atmosphere, as the cuisine is inconsistent from dish to dish (the royal couscous impresses more than some tajines), and extras like bottled water are pricey. Elegant attire is required and the door is strict, so dress up and book ahead. For a festive evening where the plate isn't the only focus, the show really makes its mark.
