Koya Marrakech review: our verdict
The first shock is the bar: golden arches interlocking up to a sculpted demon mask, with rows of bottles lit like a display case. The dining room follows, with golden ceilings, blue and orange velvet armchairs. On the plate, shareable Asian cuisine: well-stocked maki rolls, grilled skewers, edamame, crunchy lotus salads, and sliced beef served on its own grill.
This is the address for a dinner that makes the evening: a birthday, a night out with friends before heading to the Hivernage, a meeting where you want the decor as much as the dish. The cocktails are up to the mark, the table service is polished, and a valet waits outside. Not for an improvised dinner or a tight budget: the bill is at the top of the Marrakech range, and the door filters.
The trap: arriving without a reservation, they may accept you on the condition of freeing the table in an hour, dessert included. The right slot: book for early evening, as Koya only opens at night, from 6 pm to 1:30 am. The glass to order: a house cocktail before heading to the table.
