Etçi Mehmet review: our verdict
The red carpet rolled out in front of the door sets the tone. Etçi Mehmet, a Turkish restaurant already established in Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham, arrives in Casablanca with all its ceremony: dry-aged beef cuts aged on-site, grilled and sometimes flambéed right in front of the table, set against a backdrop of Turkish melodies. Sliced lamb chops on a wooden board, grilled meats served on pide, künefe, and tulip glass tea to finish.
This is the address for birthdays and dinners where a bit of show is desired: the service is polished, present without being overbearing, and the room knows how to celebrate a candle. Heated terraces and a valet simplify the evening on Driss Slaoui Boulevard. Less suitable for an intimate and discreet dinner, nor for those expecting vegetables as well-crafted as the meat.
The dish to order: the lamb chops or an aged steak, followed by a künefe. The trap: the vegetables and the burrata salad, which take a backseat to the grilled meats. The right time slot: dinner, when the show comes alive; on weekends, the house opens as early as morning.
