Restaurant de Grillade Zaaroura review: our verdict
The refrigerated counter serves as the menu, lined with lamb chops, kefta, skewers of marinated beef and chicken, and sausages, all ready to be selected by pointing and sent straight to the grill. Beside it, a Moroccan salad bar offers fresh bread, olives, and either a tanjia or a prune tajine for those who aren't strictly meat-eaters.
The bright, modern dining room welcomes families and groups of friends from morning until late at night. It's the go-to spot for a no-frills barbecue after a night out or for a hearty family lunch. This isn't the place for a romantic dinner or for vegetarians, as everything here revolves around meat.
The dish to order: lamb chops and kefta, chosen at the counter, served with the salads. The pitfall: the tanjia, which can be more inconsistent than the grilled meats; ask if it's fresh that day. The best time to visit: late evening, when the rest of the city has closed down.
