Riad Les Trois Palmiers El Bacha review: our verdict
Caroline and Patrick bought the house in 2004 and went against the trend by keeping the original layout, arcades, and wrought-iron grilles, then entrusting the tataoui, stucco, tadelakt, and zellige work to artisans. The result is two 18th-century residences joined together, which are almost open to visit: a small living room displays photos of the renovation, and the thirteen bedrooms are furnished with antique objects.
The riad is well-suited for groups: triple and single rooms, meals served to parties, and even seminars that occupy the entire house. Upon arrival, you sit with the team, who map out the neighborhood; the famous tables of Dar el Bacha are just steps away, and Jemaa el-Fna is less than ten minutes on foot. It is less suitable for those dreaming of a three-room riad where you won't encounter anyone: here, the patio is alive.
The best time slot: breakfast on the terrace, before the medina heats up. The good tip: let the concierge organize transfers and excursions, from the Ourika Valley to Essaouira. The pitfall: trying to find the door alone on the first evening, as the address in derb Tizougarine is earned.
