The Ritz-Carlton Rabat review: our verdict
What you notice first are the palm trees: The Ritz-Carlton has chosen the Dar Es Salam palm grove, the royal golf course as its neighbour, rather than the bustle of the city. The spacious rooms blend Art Deco lines with Moroccan touches; many open onto a terrace or balcony, and the large outdoor pool winds between the trunks.
The stay is organised around the spa, the restaurants and lounges of the estate, including Rihal, and a concierge capable of sending you to good local addresses. The varied breakfast pleases all tastes. For a wedding anniversary, a weekend with your mother, a golfing break, even a pet included. Less so for those who want to explore Rabat on foot: you are set apart from the city centre, and everything is done to keep you from leaving the estate.
The best slot: breakfast, before a morning by the pool. The trap: heading to the lounge for a simple cocktail with friends, when the service has already steered you towards the pastries and presented the bill in the middle of conversation.
