The James Rooftop review: our verdict
Two evenings coexist on the roof of the JM Suites. The first, in the early evening, keeps its promises: an elegant and cosy décor, the city below, well-crafted cocktails, and beautifully presented cuisine. The second begins around 8:30 p.m., when the DJ takes over and the music ramps up, then several notches higher.
For a drink between colleagues, a drink for two, or a basketball game on the screens with a group of friends, the place does the job, and the service is most often attentive. For a conversation that lasts until dessert, it's a different story: the volume doesn't drop, not even on a Thursday. Conversely, some Saturdays turn out calmer than one might imagine. The bill climbs a bit above average, without excess for a rooftop in the centre.
The glass to order: a cocktail, what the bar does best. The good slot: early evening, before 8:30 p.m. and the arrival of the DJ. The good tip: game nights, when the screens transform the rooftop into a dressed-up stand.
