The Ruined Garden review: our verdict
Plants, tranquility, and a setting that invites you to linger: The Ruined Garden is first and foremost a green oasis in the heart of the medina, on the Siaj side. You stop by for afternoon tea and pastries, or for lunch around a well-executed lamb tajine.
The house, run by a British owner, features a reduced English menu of four or five dishes and serves no alcohol. Service is attentive, the atmosphere relaxed and very touristy. Not for a tight budget or lovers of inventive cuisine: prices are well above the rest of the medina, and the dish, sometimes bland, does not always live up to the promise of the setting. For a break in the greenery, however, the bet is won.
The dish to order: lamb tajine, the best on a short menu. The trap: chicken tajine, 150 DH for a thigh and four olives (noted in April 2026). The good time slot: afternoon, for tea in the garden; nothing happens before 13:00, no point coming in the morning.
