Black Chich review: our verdict
You have to find the door, then climb up: the reward is a colourful rooftop, set far enough away for the bustle of Marrakech to settle. Black Chich serves simple, aromatic Moroccan cuisine here, slightly different from the neighbourhood menus, with vegetable dips and their sauces to start, and desserts that don't overdo the sugar.
Service is quick; the smile, however, depends on the server. For a break between two souks, a lunch for two, or a smoothie in peace, the address is just right, with reasonable bills for the medina. Less so for a big meal where every dish must be up to standard: main courses are noticeably more inconsistent than starters, desserts, and drinks, and a mafé has already frankly disappointed.
The good tip: climb up just for a juice or smoothie on the rooftop, the best part of the house. The trap: betting the whole meal on a main course; better to multiply starters and desserts. Open every day, from noon to 10 pm.
