Comptoir des Mines Galerie review: our verdict
Before the first artwork, there is the building itself: a pink modernist block at the corner of Rue de la Liberté and Rue de Yougoslavie, restored with enough care that one hesitates between admiring the walls and what hangs within them. Spanning two levels, the gallery features large white rooms with light wooden floors, showcasing contemporary art, mostly Moroccan, through personal or collective exhibitions: artists such as Mohamed Kacimi, Mahi Binebine, Hassan Darsi, and Sara Ouhaddou are among those represented.
This is the perfect cultural outing for a late morning in Guéliz, whether alone or with a partner, for anyone wishing to see local creation under ideal conditions. The reception team takes the time to explain the works, and guided tours with the curator can be booked on the website. It is neither a museum nor a souvenir shop: the gallery sells to collectors, hosts auctions, and changes its exhibitions several times a year.
The best time to visit: Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 1 pm or from 3 pm to 6:30 pm; the gallery closes for lunch, on Sundays and Mondays. The insider tip: book a guided tour with the curator to understand the current installation. The pitfall: arriving around 2 pm and finding the doors closed.
