Mamma Mia review: our verdict
Mamma Mia plays the role of a classic trattoria, offering a menu that covers the breadth of Italy: fresh pasta, pizzas, meats, fish, and a few specialties, alongside a cellar blending Moroccan, French, and Italian wines. The safest bets are simple orders: a thin-crust pizza, spicy arrabbiata pasta, and a flan to finish.
The chic yet family-friendly dining room welcomes both dinners with children and groups of friends, accommodating up to ten covers on reservation, while service is quick, sometimes a bit too so. Located on Rue de la Liberté in the heart of Guéliz, it is a practical address open every day from noon. It is not for those seeking gourmet Italian cuisine: more elaborate dishes, such as scampi tagliatelle or poached chicken, lack consistency, and the flavor is not always up to scratch.
The good move: stick to the classics, pizza or tomato pasta. The pitfall: creamy sauce pasta or seafood dishes, which can sometimes be bland. The tip: book for groups, as the house accommodates tables of up to ten people.
