Pepe Luis review: our verdict
Pepe Luis speaks fluent Spanish and serves saffron-infused paella with prawns and mussels, sizzling prawns in their pan, octopus, croquettes, and deep-red carabineros. Large platters of seafood, oysters, langoustines, and shrimp on ice are shared among several people, while a series of small tapas opens the meal.
The room, under an angle skylight dressed with climbing plants, has the elegance of a brasserie: white tablecloths, a bar counter, professional and seasoned service. People come here for business lunches in Maarif, a festive dinner, or to impress a client. Not for a cheap meal: the rates are those of a high-end table, and the paella has not always held its rank in recent months.
The trap: ordering multiple platters without looking at the menu, the bill follows mercilessly. The good slot: lunch, when the skylight is in full light. To know: open every day, from noon to midnight.
