Pepe Nero review: our verdict
Two courtyards, two atmospheres: one planted with orange trees around a fountain, set on black and white zellige tile flooring, the other bordered by a long turquoise basin illuminated by lanterns. Pepe Nero occupies a riad in the medina and serves Italian cuisine, including pasta, risotto, and meats, with a detour into revisited Moroccan classics, alongside a cellar featuring wines from Italy and Morocco.
This is the spot for a dinner for two or between friends after a day of walking, when you want a romantic setting and attentive service that knows how to seat you at a beautiful table to finish your drink. It is not the cheapest Italian food in Marrakech, nor the most consistent: some leave delighted, while others find the pasta overcooked and the portions light for the price.
The pitfall: the wine list, beautiful but with high prices. The right time: dinner, when the lanterns light up around the basin; service is also available at lunch from 13:00 to 16:00, and the venue is closed on Mondays. The tip: mention a vegetarian or gluten-free diet when booking, as the kitchen knows how to adapt.
