Our review
Boulevard El Mansour Eddahbi, at the end of a passage in Guéliz that you cross through an old wooden door, Azalai Urban Souk is Chef Faiçal Zahraoui's table. His menu follows the seasons and reimagines Moroccan classics with modern techniques and local produce, on very carefully presented plates. Leave room for dessert: the pastry is one of the house's strong points.
The dining room is elegant, a small terrace adds a cosy touch, and from some tables you can see the open kitchen at work. Service is smiling and attentive, and the chef loves to come talk about his dishes. Vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free people have real options. An address for a dinner for two, a business lunch or to introduce friends to Moroccan cuisine that dares to go beyond family recipes. On leaving, take a stroll through the shop selling crockery and artisanal objects.
À savoir : budget more than 300 dirhams per person, book for dinner, and note that service stops at 22 h and the house closes on Sunday. It also does catering for receptions. We leave with the desire to come back next season to see what the menu has become.
