Les Terrasses by Taros review: our verdict
From above, Moulay Hassan Square spreads out beneath the tables, with the ramparts and port forming the backdrop: this is the panoramic view of Essaouira's kasbah that draws people up to Les Terrasses by Taros. In the evening, musicians perform on the terrace, including Gnaoua, and the atmosphere becomes truly festive during the Gnaoua Festival.
For a sunset drink or an outdoor concert, the venue has its merits. For dinner, much less so: the dishes are beautifully presented but expensive for modest portions, and the Moroccan cuisine has already disappointed, with cold, unseasoned couscous. The staff are friendly but overwhelmed during busy hours, sometimes clearing glasses before they are finished. Avoid if you're on a tight budget or expect a flawless meal.
The good tip: limit yourself to a drink in the late afternoon, even if it costs 100 DH (as of April 2026): you're paying for the view. The pitfall: ending with a mint tea or an espresso, each billed at 50 DH according to the same receipt.
