Sam's Restaurant review: our verdict
The sign says it all: fish specialty. At Sam's, the choice depends on the day's catch, and the menu leans toward Spain with a seafood paella, garlic prawns served in their own pan, and lobster for special occasions. The room, with its worn parquet floor, turquoise wood paneling, and walls covered in framed pictures, retains the feel of a seaside tavern.
People come here for an informal lunch or to dine early on the terrace when the sun is setting. The service is friendly and knows how to find a table even when it's full. It's the spot for a couple or a small group who want to eat simply by the sea without breaking the bank. This isn't the place for composed salads or steaks: on those dishes, the portions and execution are lacking.
The dish to order: the fish of the day, chosen from the day's catch. The trap: leaving the sea behind for a Niçoise salad or steak. The best time: an early dinner on the terrace at sunset; service runs from noon to 10:30 PM.
